Durespo is the exclusive distributor for Colombia of worldwide leading brands of agricultural, industrial and home products. We import merchandise from Germany, New Zealand, the United States, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Great Britain, Brazil, Argentina, China and Canada.

We are one of the largest Colombian importers of power tools for forestry, landscape and gardening, cleaning equipments for home and industry, agricultural and construction products, tools for mining, and natural and renewable energy systems.

We have a great knowledge of the domestic market and consumer habits. We distribute our products through our network of more than 200 approved dealers and we cover 100% of the inhabited area of the country. In addition we have our own warehouses and two showrooms located in the two largest cities in Colombia: Bogotá and Medellin. All sales are supported by factory trained qualified technicians who assist with professional service and maintenance.

In the last year alone, we registered above average growth, creating new job opportunities and increasing our market share. Highly qualified employees and a good working atmosphere are the biggest success factors for our company.

Durespo is commited to being a socially responsibe company by supporting charitable and disaster relief organizations, and we have been active in preserving historical architectural monuments in our home town.

History

Durespo was founded in 1974. His founder had worked in the textile industry for 23 years, but for a long time, he had the dream of creating his own business. With only two people, US$6,000 and the help of his wife and their children, the import business started in a small office in downtown Medellin, Colombia.

Within a year, Durespo became the German company Andreas Sthil exclusive distributor for Colombia. Soon after that, they imported the first chainsaws and from there, they learned the business: building markets, geting dealers, studying the operation of the chainsaws, training the technicians, maintaining the equipments, and of course building trust in their new company.

Growing the business was not easy, but with the profound commitment and optimisim of its founder, and with the growing dealer networks, Durespo attracted new manufacturers from around the world.

For almost 40 years, the family-run company prides itself on excellent customer service and building solid relationships with their clients and dealers.

Colombia

Colombia enjoys a favorable strategic location in the Americas, with coasts on both the Pacific and the Atlantic oceans. It has a population of 44.9 million, making it the third largest country in the region, 77% of the people live in urban areas.

Historically, Colombia has shown outstanding stability. Over the last decade, the country has shown trend of positive GDP growth and has been the least volatile country in the region. Furthermore, Colombia's economic expansion has been higher than World's, and other Latin American countries. During the past ten years, the Colombian economy grew by 4% per year and hasn't experienced negative economic growth.

According to CIA publication, "The World Fact book", Colombia's nominal GDP is $435.4 billion (2010 est.), the 29th greatest economy in the world and the 5th in Latin America. The GDP per capita is $9,800 and the composition by sector is: agriculture: 9.2%, industry: 37.6% and services: 53.1%.

Colombia has extensive unexploited land as well as plentiful and accessible natural resources, 34.50 million hectares available for farming development.

Due to its location in the tropics, Colombia has the greatest efficiency in production bioenergetics in the world.
